Caring For Your Jewellery

Keep your jewellery bright and sparkling

Keep your stones sparkling:
For most pieces that are set with stones, I suggest warm soapy water and an old toothbrush. Soak the ring in very warm soapy water for a few minutes and then give the back of the setting a good scrub. Rinse again in warm water and dry with a tissue. The diamonds should now be sparkling again.

Clean your silver regularly:
To prevent silver tarnish build-up, a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulphur or hydrogen sulphide in the ambient air you will need to clean your silver jewellery using polishes formulated specifically to remove tarnish. Tarnish is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Although wearing your silver jewellery often is the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, regular cleanings of all your silver items will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling. Silver cloths are the best, I feel, for keeping your silver jewellery clean. If you are in any doubt about your jewellery, just call or email us and we will be happy to help.

Caring for precious metal:
Gold, Platinum and Palladium won’t tarnish like silver, but white gold will become dull and flat after time as usually white gold is plated with rhodium (an extremely hard and shiny white metal in the platinum group). Depending on the amount of wear to a piece of jewellery the plating may wear off, revealing the original metal colour. Re-plating is a simple process which can be done to restore your jewelleries whiteness if needed. Please look at our repair, alterations and resizing page for more details or feel free to pop in to one of our stores for advice.
